This announcement was a long time coming and with a lot of prior warning (see notes below regarding Black Gate capacitors...a key part of the modifications we perform on many products).

Please note that we no longer accept current model Wadia products for modification. We do offer special GNSC modified versions of the Wadia 381, 781, S7i, and 9 Series components...but we do not accept these for upgrade when purchased elsewhere.

Are Black Gates the only important part in GNSC modifications? Not at all....but they are in extremely limited supply and they do help us acheive the sonic results we are trying to acheive. So the rare parts we do have, are reserved to allow us to perform modifications (and provide support) for customers buying the units from us.

We've been warning our customers for two years now that the Black Gate capacitors we use in many of our modifications are in short supply. With the very positive hi-fi+ review (mentioned below) we expect to rapidly deplete the remaining stock. If you are interested in a GNSC mod there is no time to delay. In effort to reward clients who purchase their Wadia, Resolution Audio, or Aesthetix units from GNSC we will soon be closing the door on offering mods on those units not purchased through GNSC. It wouldn't be fair to not be able to offer our mods for units bought from us....to do this we simply can't continue to accept units for modification that have been purchased elsewhere. Great Northern Sound Company is pleased to introduce the new Wadia 170 iTransport. This product is the first and only to provide native digital audio output from an iPOD. It also provides high-resolution component video and s-video outputs. We are very impressed with the performance of this unique piece of equipment. For us, it is the first time we have able to truly enjoy an iPOD on a home audio system. Great Northern Sound Company is offering the stock Wadia iTransport for $379 Great Northern Sound Company has also developed a modification for the iTransport. This modification is only available to those whom purchase their iTransport directly from Great Northern Sound Company. The GNSC modified version is only $695. Black Gate capacitors have gone out of production...how is Great Northern Sound going to deal with it? Black Gates are an important part of many of the modifications we perform on hi-end products. We use them in our modifications for Wadia, Resolution Audio, ARC and Aesthetix...most of what we modify. With the last production run of these capacitors already gone and all stock from the factory depleted, we have invested in and secured as many of the values and types we use in our mods as possible. This stock will allow us to continue to perform these modifications for a period of time, but demand will determine for how long...we can not predict that. The modifications for these products will be done on a first come, first serve basis. First priority and best pricing goes to clients who are buying units from GNSC....Wadia, Aesthetix and Resolution Audio units. We are Keeping our modification pricing as low as possible for clients who are supportive of Great Northern Sound Company by buying the units from us, and full 3 year warranties are provided to those clients. We will continue to offer our modifications to those who have bought units elsewhere or used, but it has to be at a higher cost and with a shorter, less exhaustive warranty coverage. The only way to fairly allocate these rare parts is to first provide them to our most loyal Great Northern Sound Company clients. We will of course continue to try to find good substitutes for the Black Gates in our modifications, but at this point we haven't found any other capacitor for use in power supplies that achieves the sonic performance of the Black Gate. So in short...do not wait if you want to have a Great Northern Sound Company upgrade...and if you want the best price and best warranty be sure to purchase your Wadia, Resolution Audio or Aesthetix units from Great Northern Sound Company directly. You'll be well rewarded for the loyalty and support.
